What closes this road
- The fords. Two river crossings. After heavy rain or in a hot spell of snowmelt they rise fast, and there is a level above which no driver here will cross. This is the most common reason a day gets cancelled, and it usually clears in 24–48 hours.
- Fresh snow. December to March the track is normally passable for a UAZ or a GAZ-66. A big dump closes it for a few days until it is packed.
- Mud after a thaw. Late March and April are the worst weeks of the year on this track — frozen ground turning to grease.
What we do if it closes on your date
We tell you the evening before, not on the morning. You move to another date, switch to a different valley at the same price, or take a full refund. We do not run a vehicle at a ford our driver does not like, and no amount of money changes that answer.
