What it really costs to get from Karakol to the hot springs: a seat in a shared 4x4, a whole private UAZ, a jeep you negotiate yourself, or a tour. Prices in som, with dollars for reference.
There is no official price list for the road to Altyn Arashan. Old blogs quote prices from 2015 to 2021. Tour sites sell multi-day packages. Drivers in Karakol quote whatever the day allows. Here is a straight comparison of every option we could verify, with our own prices up front.

In dollars, for reference: a return seat is about $43, a one-way seat about $31, a UAZ-469 about $286 and a UAZ-452 about $354. Online card payments are charged in som, exactly these amounts; your bank does any conversion.
Every option is the same car type, a UAZ 4x4 driven by a licensed local carrier, on the same 16 km track. The difference is whether you pay for a seat or for the whole car.

What this means for you
- Alone or as a couple: a return seat is the cheapest reliable way. Two seats cost 7,500 som. A negotiated jeep for two costs the same as for six.
- Four people: four seats cost 15,000 som. A negotiated jeep may come close if you bargain well, but nothing is booked in advance.
- Six to eight people: the UAZ-452 at 31,000 som gives you the car and your own schedule. Eight return seats would cost 30,000 som.
- Trekking to Ala-Kul: you need one direction, so a one-way seat at 2,750 som. Details on the Ala-Kul page.

- Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure.
- Pay by card online or by card or cash at the meeting point. No cash deals with strangers in a car park.

Is it cheaper to negotiate a jeep in Karakol?
For a full car of 4 to 6 people splitting the cost, it can be. For one or two people it rarely is: you pay for the whole car. Recent reports put a UAZ for a return trip at around $200, and the price is only fixed once you are in the car.
What costs are not included in the jeep price?
The national park fee (about 300 som, cash at the barrier), the bathhouse (about 250 som; the wild river pools are free) and food. There is no ATM in the valley.
Can I pay in dollars or tenge?
Online, the card is charged in Kyrgyz som, exactly the price shown; your bank converts if your card is in another currency. At the meeting point you pay by card or in cash. In the valley you need som in cash.
Do kids pay full price?
Children under 12 travel with an adult at the same seat price.
