Getting there
How do I get to Altyn Arashan from Karakol? The track starts above the village of Ak-Suu and runs 16 km up a riverbed with fords. By UAZ 4x4 it takes 2 to 2.5 hours. On foot it takes 5 to 6 hours uphill. The simplest option is a seat in our daily 4x4 from Giraffe Coffee at 08:00. Can I drive there in my own or a rental car? Only in a real high-clearance 4x4 with an experienced driver. The fords are the main problem.
Is the road safe? It is rough and slow. Our cars are UAZ 4x4s driven by licensed local carriers who know the track. The driver decides whether it is safe to go. Check the road today after rain or snow.
Do I need a guide? Not for the valley. For the Ala-Kul pass outside summer, a guide is a good idea.
Prices and payment
How much does a seat cost? 3,750 som return, with about 5 hours in the valley, or 2,750 som one way. A whole UAZ-469 for up to 4 is 25,000 som, a UAZ-452 for up to 8 is 31,000 som. All options compared on the prices page.
What is not included? The national park fee (about 300 som, cash at the barrier), the bathhouse (about 250 som) and food.
How do I pay, and can I cancel? By card online, or by card or cash at the meeting point. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure.
Booking and departure
What if not enough people book? The car runs from 2 paid seats. If fewer are booked, you choose another date or get a 100% refund.
Until when can I book for today? Seats for today until 07:45 Karakol time. Future dates any time. A private UAZ can be booked any time, including today. Live seats are on the schedule.
Where do we meet? Giraffe Coffee, Zhusaeva Street, central Karakol, at 07:50. There is no hotel pick-up. If you are late, we wait 15 minutes.
Who actually drives? Licensed local carriers in their own UAZs. We are the booking agent: bookings, payments, refunds and support.
In the valley
How hot are the springs, and are they free? Bathhouse water is roughly 35 to 41 °C, about 250 som. The wild pools by the river are free. See the hot springs guide.
Is there signal, an ATM or a toilet? No signal, no ATM. Bring cash in som. Guesthouses have simple toilets and food.
How high is it? About 2,500 m. Most people feel fine.
Can I bring kids? Yes. Under 12 they travel with an adult at the same seat price.
Can I stay overnight? Yes, in guesthouses or yurts, paid in cash. Book a one-way seat up and another down. Where to sleep: Altyn Arashan guesthouses.
Ala-Kul and seasons
How do I combine this with the Ala-Kul trek? Ride up one way at 08:00 to start from Altyn Arashan, or book a seat down at 16:00 for the day you finish. Pick-up on the Karakol Gorge side is on request in WhatsApp. Routes and season on the Ala-Kul page.
Do you run in winter? Usually yes. Deep snow can close the road for a few days. If we cannot go, we tell you the evening before.

At Giraffe Coffee, Zhusaeva Street, central Karakol, at 07:50. There is no hotel pick-up; the café is a 5 to 10 minute walk from most hostels. If you are late, we wait 15 minutes.

Licensed local carriers, each driving their own UAZ. Arashan Transfer, a service of Ala-Too Digital LLC, is the booking agent: we take bookings and payments and handle refunds and support.
How hot are the springs, and are they free?
The bathhouses use water of roughly 35 to 41 °C and cost about 250 som. There are also wild pools by the river that are free.
Is there mobile signal, an ATM or a toilet in the valley?
There is no mobile signal and no ATM, so bring cash in som. Guesthouses have simple toilets and serve basic meals.
How high is Altyn Arashan? Will the altitude bother me?
About 2,500 m. Most people feel fine. If you feel unwell, rest and drink water.
Can I bring kids?
