These are the questions people actually send us, in roughly the order they send them.
How much does it cost to get to Altyn Arashan?
A shuttle seat is $45 one way or $85 up and back. A day trip seat, with the driver waiting four hours and hot spring entry included, is $85. A private UAZ is $290 for up to four people or $360 for the eight-seat van. Those are the prices you pay at checkout — there is nothing added later.
Does the driver wait for me in the valley?
On a day trip and on any private booking, yes, for the full four hours. On the $45 shuttle, no — that is a drop-off. It is the single biggest difference between the two products and the reason for the price gap.
Will the departure actually run?
It runs at two paid seats. If a date has fewer than two by 18:00 the evening before, you pick: another date, the whole vehicle for what you already paid, or a full refund within 24 hours. The other shared shuttle in town needs five people and cancels on the morning.
Can I travel alone?
Yes — book a seat on any published departure. If you want a specific date to yourself regardless of who else books, that is a guaranteed solo departure at $190, which is the whole vehicle rather than a seat.
Can I book for tomorrow?
Up to 20:00 the night before goes straight through the site. Later than that, message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly whether we can still get a vehicle.
What if the weather is bad?
We go in rain — it is a UAZ. We do not go if the fords have risen to where the driver says no. In that case you hear from us the evening before and you choose a new date or a refund.
Where can I leave my big backpack?
With us in Karakol, free, for as long as you are up there. Giraffe Coffee is where we meet and it is where you hand the bag over. Tell us at checkout so we expect it.
Is the park fee included?
In the day trip, yes, along with hot spring entry. On the shuttle, no — the barrier is 250–300 som per person in cash.
How cold is it up there?
Reliably 8–12°C colder than Karakol, and the valley loses the sun early. In summer that means a fleece; in winter it means real gloves. People underestimate this every single week.
Is there phone signal or wifi?
Essentially no. A couple of guesthouses have a spot where a message will occasionally send. Plan as if there is none.
Can I pay in cash or by transfer instead?
Card on the site is what we prefer, because it means the seat is genuinely yours. If you would rather pay in cash in Karakol, write to us and we will hold a seat — but we release unpaid seats at 18:00 the evening before.
Where exactly do we meet?
Giraffe Coffee on Zhusaeva street, in the centre of Karakol, at 08:00. It is a landmark every taxi driver in town knows and a ten-minute walk from most hostels. The driver parks in front of it. A private vehicle is the exception — that one comes to your hotel.
Can you pick me up in Bishkek or Cholpon-Ata?
That is a different journey and a different price — 400 km from Bishkek. Write to us with your dates and we will quote it properly rather than guess.
Are children allowed?
Yes. Under 12 is $55, under 4 is free on a lap. Under about four years old we would suggest a private vehicle so you can stop when you need to.
Can I combine Altyn Arashan with Jeti-Oguz in one day?
No — they are in opposite directions and each is a full day. Two days, and we will price both together.
Who are you?
A small team in Karakol. We own the schedule, we know the drivers by name and one of us will answer your message. We are not a booking platform and there is no call centre.
