Trekker shuttle: Karakol ⇄ Altyn Arashan
You are walking the Ala-Kul loop and you only need the ride. $45 one way, $85 up and back with the return date left open.
The driver takes you to Altyn Arashan and leaves — no waiting in the valley, no day rate, no hot spring entry. That is the whole difference between this and the $85 day trip. It is not half the price because the vehicle only goes half the distance; it still drives back down empty. It is cheaper because you are not paying for four hours of a driver sitting by the river waiting for you.

Why not just find a jeep in town
You can, and if you are four people who all showed up on the same day it will work out cheaper — a whole car split four ways is around 2 000 som each if the driver is in a good mood, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What you are buying here instead is certainty: a seat that exists on the date you chose, paid for with a card from wherever you are right now, on a departure that runs at two people rather than five. The other shared shuttle in town cancels if it does not fill, and it cancels on the morning, when you have already checked out of your hostel.
Coming back down
This is the part everybody gets wrong. Cars go down the valley empty most afternoons because nobody has booked them, and trekkers stand at the bridge trying to flag one. If you bought the return, message us the evening before — we already know which car is coming down and at what time. If you did not, message us anyway: an empty seat on a car that is already descending is $45 and we would rather sell it than drive it down empty.

Questions
What time does the shuttle leave?
08:00 from Giraffe Coffee in central Karakol, which puts you in the valley by 10:30 with a full day to walk. In peak season there is usually an afternoon car around 14:00 as well. Both are shown on the departures page with the seats left on each.
Where do I leave my big backpack?
Most Karakol hostels will hold a bag for free if you are coming back to them. If you are not, we will keep it in our office and hand it back when you come down — just tell us at checkout.
Does the park fee come out of this?
No. The shuttle is transport only. The park barrier is 250–300 som per person, cash, and you pay it at the barrier.
Can I book for tomorrow morning?
Yes. Anything up to 20:00 the night before goes straight through. Later than that, message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly if we can still get a car.
